2017 Toyota Corolla
Toyota has a longstanding reputation for safety and reliability and the Corolla is what helped them build that legacy. The 2017 model of the Corolla is a Top Safety Pick+ for this model year according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), who conducts independent crash tests to inform consumers. It received the highest rating possible for all five crashworthiness factors assessed as well as a superior rating for front crash prevention.

2017 Chevrolet Volt
Also in the small car category is the Chevrolet Volt, which was also named as a Top Safety Pick+. Notable for this vehicle is its high rating for headlights, as they provide maximum visibility during night driving, especially when driving around corners. 2017 Subaru Outback
Among midsize cars, this Subaru wagon stands out. It received high ratings for all crashworthiness factors, including the front, roof, seats and head restraints. 2017 Audi A3
Among other luxury midsize cars, the Audi A3 is a step above the rest. Superior ratings thanks to its advanced forward collision prevention technology keeps drivers and passengers safe by preventing accidents, and it received an overall five-star rating from the NHTSA. The A3 comes in both all-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations, both of which received the highest ratings. Its big brother, the larger Audi Q7, also earned high safety ratings and was named an IIHS Top Safety Pick.

2017 Nissan Rogue
Nissan’s small SUV, equipped with its torque-friendly CVT transmission, has earned a Top Safety Pick+ award as well. Its headlights provide excellent visibility and it received a superior rating in frontal crash prevention thanks to its emergency braking equipment, which automatically applies the brakes if you’re approaching a car too quickly.

2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport
This midsize SUV earned a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA and was named a Top Safety Pick by the IIHS. Several optional safety technologies, including lane departure warning, a rear camera, and forward collision warning make the Santa Fe an excellent choice for safety.

2017 Chrysler Pacifica
Among minivans, the Pacifica is the clear winner when it comes to safety. Receiving high ratings for 5/5 crashworthiness factors, a superior front crash prevention rating and an acceptable rating for the built-in child seat mechanisms, the Pacifica is an outstanding choice for families in the market for a new vehicle.
