people in moving car

Turn the radio on!

How many songs come to mind that have to do with music and cars? It seems that as long as cars have been around, music has embraced them. Or maybe it is the other way around. Music and cars just go together. What better way to spend the evening than driving with the windows down and the music turned up?

But car radios weren’t embraced by everyone when they were first introduced. In fact, in the 1930s, laws were actually proposed to ban car radios. Those laws didn’t go far, but people were concerned that the music would prove too distracting. Instead, it seems that music has become an important component of a car. Today, cars are equipped with satellite radio, CD players, and even connections for a personal device.

Perhaps one reason is that going for a drive with the radio on is a great way to relax. Research supports that music is great for stress relief. So the next time you just need to get away from it all, do it – literally. Hop in the car, turn on your favorite tunes and escape for a little while at least!
