Which Cars Last Longer: Electric Vehicles vs Gas

Which Cars Last Longer: Electric Vehicles vs Gas

Electric vehicles are becoming more common, and for good reason. Rising gas prices and concerns with gas engine emissions have led more people to make the switch. Plus, with more models becoming available, there is also a greater selection for consumers. In fact, there are now around 30 models of electric cars on the market.

So what about a car’s lifespan? Which type of car lasts longer, electric vehicles vs gas? And what about the maintenance costs of each?

While electric vehicles are relatively new and make comparisons somewhat challenging, there is positive data out there for electric car shoppers. Some Tesla models, for example, have been driven well over 300,000 miles and are still going strong.

The easier maintenance and reliability of electric cars also helps them last longer. There are fewer components to change or repair than in a conventional gas engine. Without fuel filters, injection systems, and all the other trappings of a gas engine, electric cars have less that can go wrong over time.

Electric Car Maintenance Costs vs Gas

Having fewer components to replace and repair also means that electric car maintenance costs vs gas tend to be lower. Both have components like brakes and tires that need regular replacing, but the internal combustion engine in gas vehicles requires more maintenance and costs. This includes oil changes, cooling systems, spark plugs, and more. And that’s before you pay for gas. It costs more to fill the average gas tank than it does to charge an electric car.
