What To Do When You’re in a Car Accident

There’s nothing like getting in a car accident to shake you up and really ruin your day. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, shocked, and unsure of how to move forward when an unexpected accident takes place. But knowing how to handle the situation can help you feel a bit more together in the unfortunate event that it happens to you.

If you’re ever involved in a car crash, the first step is to move your car away from further harm, if possible. But if your car isn’t moveable, put your hazard lights on and get yourself to safety. Make sure your car is off and in park before you leave the vehicle.

The next step is to talk to others involved in the accident and call the police. While you’re waiting for them to arrive, gather as much info as you can for insurance and police report purposes. Try to find out the follow information about all drivers and cars involved:

  • Drive names and passenger names
  • License plate numbers
  • Contact info of witnesses
  • Accident address or location
  • Insurance info
  • Type of cars involved in the crash

After properly documenting the information and taking photos of the scene, the next steps are to file an insurance claim and then get any damage to your car repaired.
